As I promised you yesterday night, I want to tell you something about a wonderful book I read last September.

I have been working as linguistic assistant in the important cultural event Pordenonelegge.it  (www.pordenonelegge.it) since 2007 and it is a wonderful experience since I always work with important and famous foreign writers.

I had the pleasure to meet outstanding figures of the intellectual world and I was really pleased to work with them.

Today I want to mention one of them: she is a Spanish author, Alicia Giménez Bartlett and she was there to present her latest nove (and Nadal Prize winner in 2011) l, Donde nadie te encuentre. (where nobody will find you).

I read her book in 2 days. It is wonderful. It is amazing. The story she tells is unique. The novel is a blend of reality and fiction. The true story she reports is the one of the famous Spanish “rebel” called La Pastora (meaning: the woman shepherd), who was an hermaphrodite partisan, a maquis, who had a strong personality as well as a huge heart. La Pastora talks through monologues, that are taken directly from his biography (who died in 2004). The details of the patriot are taken from the book of the journalist José Calvo, “La Pastora”, who studied his case.

The figure of La Pastora is complex: he is very strong but at the same time weak and thoughtful. La Pastora is very concrete and delineates the dramatic history of Franco regime in Spain.

Along with this report, there is the bright novel that Alicia creates: an investigation around the of La Pastora, and a look inside the inner sides of the two main characters of the story.  This is a novel full of action and of twists and it is also a book full of psychological picture of the mankind.

Alicia is a gorgeous person. I met her and her husband. She is an extremely nice woman, she loves her job but she loves her readers most. She is always at our disposal and she speaks like she is talking to old friends. I loved her company and I enjoyed her attitude towards life in general, and towards women in particular.

The message I got from her, from her incisive way of speaking (and writing!) is that we all should take like easier than we always do. We should just take our time to develop our skills and never give up. We should pursue our dreams never forgetting to be realistic. Thank you Alicia.

I warmly suggest you to read this book. You will be satisfied with it and with Alicia too. You can literally feel her through the lines. There is Alicia in there.

State leggendo qualcosa di interessante ultimamente?

Come vi ho promesso ieri notte, oggi vi voglio parlare di un libro stupendo che ho letto lo scorso settembre.

Vi faccio una premessa: dal 2007 collaboro come assistente linguistica all’importantissimo evento culturale Pordenonelegge.i (www.pordenonelegge.it) e per me è da sempre stata un’esperienza incredibile e che mi offre l’opportunità di conoscere personalità eminenti della cultura internazionale e di lavorare con loro.

Oggi quindi vi voglio parlare di una di queste personalità: un’autrice spagnola, Alicia Giménez Bartlett, che era all’evento per presentare ai lettori italiani il suo ultimo romanzo e premio Nadal 2011 “Dove nessuno ti troverà”.

Ho letto il romanzo in due giorni. Semplicemente geniale, meraviglioso. La trama è unica. Il romanzo è una miscela vincente di realtà e mistero e di storia inventata. La storia vera è quella di un famoso partigiano spagnolo, La Pastora, un famoso caso di ermafroditismo, un appartenente al maquis durante il franchismo in Spagna. La Pastora parla attraverso monologhi che sono presi direttamente dalla biografia della Pastora (realmente esistito e morto nel 2004). I dettagli del patriota derivano dal libro del giornalista José Calvo “La Pastora”, che ha seguito e studiato il suo caso.

Il personaggio della Pastora è molto complesso: è una persona estremamente forte e riflessiva ma anche molto vulnerabile.

Accanto a questi dati biografici raccontati in prima persona si svolge la trama romanzesca del libro: due personaggi totalmente differenti che indagano su di lui. Romanzo pieno di azione e di colpi di scena, ma che dipinge anche un quadro psicologico dell’essere umano.

Alicia è una persona squisita. Ho conosciuto lei e suo marito. È una donna deliziosa e carismatica, adora il suo lavoro e i suoi lettori prima di tutto. L’ho trovata sempre a disposizione dei lettori e le piace parlare come se si stesse rivolgendo a dei vecchi amici. Ho particolarmente apprezzato la sua compagnia discreta e il suo atteggiamento verso la vita in generale e verso la donna in particolare.

Il messaggio che mi ha trasmesso, che il suo modo incisivo di parlare (e scrivere!) mi ha lasciato è che tutti noi dovremmo prendere la vita con più calma. Dovremmo prenderci il nostro tempo per poter sviluppare le nostre potenzialità senza mai mollare. Dovremmo inseguire i nostri sogni, senza però dimenticarci la nostra dimensione reale.

Vi consiglio vivamente di leggere questo libro. Ne rimarrete affascinati. Potrete davvero percepire Alicia tra le righe… Alicia è proprio li dentro.
