READING OR WRITING?

Good evening beloved readers and followers,

tonight the big question for me is: do you want to read or to write?
Oh well, I can easily do both since tomorrow is Saturday.

But immediately my thoughts go to that simple question: read or write?
Can you imagine the incredible fortune we have to be able to both read and write?
Have you ever thought that those are privilege and we never recognize it?
In many countries all around the world people (women in particular) are not allowed to enter the magnificent world of words.
There are various motivations for this: lack of money, gaps in culture...
It is more than a simple question, it is a matter of express what we have inside. If we are not able to read, we cannot advance in culture and knowledge. If we cannot write, we are not able to let the others know about us, we cannot express the inner part of us and we, more simply, do our everyday activities. Think about it, we read road signs, we read newspapers headlines, we text... And, a step higher, we write and read e-mails, we write books and poems, we write blogs and answer written questions.
Culture is a vortex, the more you read the more you would read, the more you write, the more you would write. If you do not have the basis of this... what are you?
Think about it, and be grateful for the skills you have, even if you think they are so natural to you.. oh well, they are not..

Ciao a tutti carissimi lettori!

stasera la domanda che mi sono posta è stata: leggo o scrivo?
Bè, posso fare benissimo entrambe le cose, domani è sabato!!

Ma immediatamente i miei pensieri si sono fermati di nuovo sulla domanda: leggo o scrivo?
Siamo fortunatissimi se possiamo fare entrambe le cose.
Avete mai pensato a come questi due verbi rappresentino un privilegio senza che nemmeno ce ne rendiamo conto?
In molti paesi al mondo le persone (soprattutto le donne) non sono ammesse a questo privilegio, ad entrare nel magnifico mondo delle parole. Ci sono varie ragioni: mancanza di denaro, infiniti gap culturali...
E questo va molto oltre la semplice domanda che mi sono posta, questo significa non avere i mezzi per esprimere ciò che abbiamo dentro. Se non possiamo leggere, non possiamo avanzare nella nostra cultura e ampliare le nostre conoscenze. Se non riusciamo a scrivere non possiamo far sapere agli altri di noi, non possiamo esprimere la parte interiore di noi o, molto più semplicemente, non riusciamo a portare a termine le nostre attività quotidiane. Pensateci, leggiamo segnali stradali, insegne, titoli di giornale, scriviamo messaggi... e, un gradino più in alto, scriviamo e leggiamo mail, libri e poesie, blog...
La cultura è un vortice, più leggi e più leggeresti, più scrivi e più scriveresti.... ma se non hai la base di tutto questo... chi sei?

Pensateci, e siate grati delle abilità che avete, anche se sono così naturali per noi... bè.. non lo sono..

Good afternoon everyone!

How are you?

Here I am, after a brief absence (SORRY!!!).

Today, as you can imagine, I will tell you about the article in the newspaper Messaggero Veneto.

I bought the newspaper early this morning and I read the article as soon as I stopped driving ;)

The article is really linear and smooth. It describes what I do and briefly who I am. The journalist, Sara Uliana, caught the essence of what really moves my personal activities, which is a deep restlessness, that I let express itself through my poems and through my infinite curiosity in everything I do not know and catches my attention. There is a little of me in every line (of course a piece in a newspaper is not enough to get to know me, but it is a starting point!). The article talks about my book, Straniera dentro (www.gruppoalbatros.it) and about the blog. 

Sara wants to underline the fact that young adults are still able to commit to different and cultural aspects, and we do want to struggle to let the world hear our voice. We are still able to build culture and knowledge.  

Yes, we are.

Ho acquistato il giornale presto stamattina, e quando  ho avuto finalmente la possibilità di leggerlo mi sono trovata davanti ad un articolo molto lineare.

La giornalista, Sara Uliana, ha scritto un articolo lineare e pulito e descrive brevemente chi sono e cosa faccio. Pur non conoscendomi Sara è riuscita a cogliere alcuni aspetti di me che muovono la mia attività, il più importante di questi è la mia inquietudine, che lascio esprimersi attraverso le mie poesie e la mia infinita curiosità, che metto in ogni cosa che faccio e ogni cosa che non conosco bene. C’è una piccola parte di me in ogni riga (ovviamente non basta un articolo per conoscermi, ma è un perfetto punto di inizio!). L’articolo parla del mio libro, Straniera dentro, edito Albatros il Filo (www.gruppoalbatros.it) e del mio blog. Sara vuole sottolineare il fatto che ci sono ancora giovani adulti che si impegnano nella cultura, che vogliono dare una svolta alla propria vita e al mondo culturale che li circonda. Continuiamo a lottare e non ci stanchiamo mai.

Voglio infine ringraziare tutti coloro che hanno comprato il giornale e letto l’articolo.

SOPHIE'S WORLD

Dear readers,

today I want to introduce you to a VIP, a very important publication.
The book is Sophie's world, written by one of the biggest Norwegian writers, Jostein Gaarder.

He published the novel in 1991 and after the English (and many other languages) translation the book became a worldwide bestseller.
This is one of the most famous philosophic novels ever written. I had the great pleasure to work with Gaarder some years ago when he came to a big cultural event here in Italy. He is an extremely nice and kind person. (as you can see I am really proud of my autographed copy!!!!)

The novel is the story of Sophie Amundsen, a 14-year-old girl who starts receiving strange and anonymous letters with strange questions like "who are you?" or "where does the world come from?".
With the time she finds out that the anonymous sender is a philosopher and she becomes her student.
He teaches her the history of philosophy, moving from different eras and times to show her the way of thinking of the great of the past. The philosophy development is mixed with the adventurous plot of the novel.
It is a complete book, you have adventure and you have philosophy. I have always loved philosophy, but I strongly suggest the reading of this book because Gaarder has a different approach towards the topic, and also towards the way to teach it. It is all like a big novel, a story that unfolds under your eyes as if it was a children's story. But, of course, it's not. It is a difficult and complicated reading, but it is so pleasant!

One of the most beautiful phrases I read in the book is the following:
"it is wrongly understood that the spirit is something more "aerial" than steam, instead it is the contrary: the spirit is more compact than ice".
So, during difficult times never forget this. Be strong, your spirit won't break, nor melt.

Cari lettori,

stasera vi voglio parlare di un vero VIP dei libri: Il mondo di Sofia, scritto da uno degli intellettuali norvegesi più importanti, Jostein Gaarder.

Gaarder ha pubblicato questo romanzo nel 1991 e, in seguito alla sua traduzione in inglese e in molte altre lingue, ha raggiunto una fama mondiale. 

Il romanzo è uno dei più importanti scritti di filosofia mai scritti.

Ho avuto il grande onore di lavorare con Gaarder, quando era qui in Italia qualche anno fa (e come vedete vado particolarmente orgogliosa della mia copia da lui autografata!!!). 

Il romanzo narra la storia di Sofia Amundsen, una ragazza di 14 anni che comincia a ricevere messaggi anonimi con strane domande come "chi sei?" oppure "da dove viene il mondo?".

Con il passare del tempo Sofia scopre che questo mittente anonimo non è altro che un filosofo, e lei ne diventa la studentessa. Lui le insegna la storia della filosofia, spostandosi tra epoche differenti per mostrarle il modo di pensare dei grandi del passato. Lo sviluppo filosofico è mescolato alla trama avventurosa del romanzo. 

E' un libro estremamente completo, trovate l'avventura e la filosofia. Ho sempre apprezzato molto la filosofia, ma suggerisco con tutto il cuore la lettura di questo libro, perché Gaarder ha un approccio totalmente nuovo all'argomento. E' tutto come un grosso romanzo, una storia che si srotola davanti ai nostri occhi come se fosse una storia per bambini. Ma, ovviamente, non lo è. E' un libro complicato e difficile, ma così piacevole!

Tra le tantissime frasi che mi hanno colpito trascrivo ora questa:

"è opinione diffusa e sbagliata che lo spirito sia qualcosa di "più aereo" del vapore, invece è esattamente il contrario: lo spirito è più compatto del ghiaccio". 

Quindi, nei momenti duri, pensate a questo. Siate forti, il vostro spirito non si romperà, e nemmeno scioglierà.

YESTERDAY'S INTERVIEW

Good afternoon beloved followers and readers!

How do you feel today?

Yesterday I told you that I was supposed to be interviewed by a journalist of Messaggero Veneto.
So here I am talking about it.

The journalist was a nice and talkative young lady, Sara Uliana, who was pleasant and interested.

She carried on one-hour-and-a-half interview and it was more like a friends chat.

She asked some smart questions and she touched some elements of what I am in such a natural way, as if she knew me. In fact, it was the first time we met. I had a good feeling about her approach and I am confident her work will be a nice one! I really wish her all the best for her work and her life.

Ieri vi ho anticipato dell'intervista per il giornale Messaggero Veneto.
Ed eccomi qui a parlarvi di questo.

La giornalista era una giovane e loquace donna, Sara Uliana, che si è rivelata una giornalista piacevole e interessata.

Ha condotto l'intervista per un'oretta e mezza e l'ha impostata come una chiacchierata tra amici.

Mi ha posto alcune intelligenti domande e ha toccato alcuni aspetti di me in maniera estremamente naturale, come se ci conoscessimo. In realtà era la prima volta che ci vedevamo.

Ho avuto un buon feeling sul suo personale approccio al giornalismo e sono fiduciosa che il suo lavoro sarà molto buono!

Le auguro il meglio per il suo lavoro e la sua vita.

WHAT IS IN THERE?

Today I want to answer a frequently asked question: why women’s purses are so HUGE?

I will write my personal point of view J

First of all, I love big purses (clutches are great, but strictly for a chic night out or for special occasions) and I want to explain you why.

It is not just a question of stuffing inside tons of objects. NOPE!!! It is something which is more cultural… or better.. totally cultural. What we call a purse (or handbag) has always existed in all traditions and peoples. And it was not just a women’s stuff! In the 1900’s the term handbag was generally referred to a luggage bag usually carried by men! People who traveled around the world used leather bags in order to be able to carry with them their belongings, and smaller purses to hang around the neck to have their precious close to them. It was, therefore, a fundamental object to possess. 

There were also professionals who produced purses, handbags, leather luggage. With time, purses and handbags developed and assumed different sizes and shapes, colors and aims. There are purses, small evening clutches, work bags, design computer bags and so on. 

In the 40’s there was the rise of important designers including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes… and this was the origin of the modern idea of purses seen as a piece of fashion.

But the most important aspect of today’s post is… have you ever entered a woman’s purse?

Here you go, an example of what I usually carry in my handbag: 

as you see here I have my wallet and key case, a genuine leather small business card holder (bought in the UN HQ in NYC), my Shiseido Loose Powder, YSL and Chanel lipgloss, my Disneyland iPhone case and my shades.

A USB drive, Cruciani Necklace case.  And most important of all, my book. I always have with me my agenda and a book. So I am always ready to read, in this case the red book is El Narco, Inside Mexico’s Criminal Insurgency by Ioan Grillo. 

The reason for this post is that this morning I woke up saying: I need big purses. And the following question was: why? And I thought it could be interesting to know that purses are not just a fashion matter, they are also a matter of having all my things with me (which is an aspect that goes on from centuries!!), just in case. I also have my Mac with me, in order to be able to work and write my posts.

Purses are important, and what you can see from outside is just an infinitesimal part of what you see when you take a look inside.

Scusate la mia assenza ieri, ma non sono riuscita a scirvere nulla! L

Oggi vi voglio parlare di un argomento o meglio di una domanda molto chiesta: ma come mai le borse delle donne sono così enormi???

Vi scrivo, come sempre, il mio punto di vista.

Per prima cosa, io prediligo le borse grandi (le pochette o clutch sono meravigliose, ma per una serata chic oppure occasioni speciali…) e vi voglio spiegare il perché.

Non è semplicemente una questione di buttarci dentro cose alla rinfusa. NO!!! Dal mio punto di vista c’è qualcosa di più culturale. E non è un aspetto solo femminile. Nei primi anni del 1900 il termine “borsetta” si riferiva generalmente alle borse/bagaglio usate principalmente dagli uomini durante il viaggio. I viaggiatori utilizzavano queste borse per avere sempre vicino i propri averi, e utilizzavano anche borselli più piccoli per tenere vicino al corpo le cose più preziose. Era, quindi, un oggetto importantissimo da possedere. Esistevano quindi vere categorie di professionisti della borsa, che producevano manufatti per tutti. Con il tempo, le borse si sono sviluppate e hanno assunto forme e dimensioni via via diverse. Ci sono borse, piccole pochette, borse da lavoro, borse per il computer portatile…

Negli anni ’40 c’è stata una vera rivoluzione dell’idea di borsa, che non era più semplicemente un oggetto utile, ma era anche una cosa bella. Con la nascita di grandi stilisti quali Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, ha avuto origine questa idea di borsa come oggetto fashion.

Ma torniamo all’obiettivo del post di oggi: siete mai entrati nella borsa di una donna?

Eccola qui: un esempio di quello che porto di solito io.

Come vedete ci sono moltissime cose, dal taccuino al portachiavi, un porta biglietti da visita che ho acquistato alle Nazioni Unite a NY, la mia cipria di Shiseido, i miei lucidalabbra di YSL e Chanel, il porta iPhone della Disney e gli occhiali da sole. Una chiavetta USB, la scatolina della collana Cruciani. Ma cosa fondamentale: il mio libro. Con me ho sempre l’agenda e un libro da leggere, non si sa mai. In questo caso il libro rosso è El Narco, Inside Mexico’s Criminal Insurgency di Ioan Grillo.

Quindi, la ragione per la quale ho voluto scrivervi è che stamattina mi sono alzata e mi sono detta: ho bisogno di borse grandi!! E la domanda spontanea è stata: ma perché? E ho pensato che potesse essere un argomento curioso anche per voi, e sottolineo il fatto che le borse che noi tutte tanto amiamo non sono solo una questione di moda, sono anche un oggetto fondamentale per avere con me tutto ciò che mi serve (ed è un aspetto che si protrae da secoli!!!). Ho sempre con me anche il mio mac per lavorare e scrivere i miei post J

Le borse sono importanti, e quello che vedete da fuori è solo una parte infinitesimale di quello che si cela dentro.

GENUINE LEATHER IN ROME

Hi everyone!

As promised I am going to tell you about something I discovered in Rome, the afternoon after the interview with Christian Floris (www.christianfloris.com or on facebook  and twitter!) thanks to the publisher Albatros il Filo (www.gruppoalbatros.it) for the presentation of my book (www.martinalunardelli.ilfilo.eu).

As I told you, in the afternoon I strolled around Rome, a city which I adore, and found out this wonderful  shopwindow… I decided to enter…

And what we discovered was an entire and ancient world made of handmade purses and genuine leather goods. I spotted a wonderful yellow genuine leather purse and I wanted to know everything about it.

As I entered, a nice young lady welcomed us and was just there for us, ready to answer our curious questions and   to show us the lab.

The name of the lab is “Bottega del sellaio” and it is a traditional family laboratory that produce handmade purses and leather original objects like chairs, handbags, work bags, belts and so on.

She told us about her granpa, who used to produce velvet purses during the ’30s in Rome, and about her father, who continued with his father’s tradition but changed material: he chose leather. And now she and her sister are working there too. This small store smells of genuine leather and you can see the tradition inside of it and in every single product they create.

I bought a yellow genuine leather purse, a perfect copy of  Hermes Birkin model, that you can see in the picture.

I wanted to write today’s post about this family laboratory  since I love artisanal products and I would love to advertise the fact that it is important, at least to me, to preserve and maintain anti-Fordism concepts. 

It is obviously important to follow the track of “fast” modernity, but what we need is a return to traditions and the ability to appreciate the value of the work of the hands of people who follow an ancient tradition of high quality skills. 

In this way we can sport a wonderful product (without spending thousands of euros, considering the fact that we can always spend less and think about poor people that do not anything to eat.) and be proud of our own traditional heritage.

So if you stroll around Rome, do not miss out this wonderful piece of Italian handmade family tradition. (via Banco di Santo Spirito, 22, Rome, Italy).  I was astonished!

Come promesso oggi vi voglio parlare di una chicca che ho avuto il piacere di conoscere a Roma, nel pomeriggio dopo l’intervista con Christian Floris www.christianfloris.com oppure su facebook  e  twitter!) grazie alla mia casa editrice Albatros il Filo (www.gurppoalbatros.it) per la presentazione del mio libro (www.martinalunardelli.ilfilo.eu).

Quindi come vi dicevo, nel pomeriggio a zonzo per Roma, una città che adoro, ho scoperto questa meravigliosa vetrina… e ho deciso di entrare…

E quello che ho trovato dietro la vetrina è stato un mondo ancora migliore! Questo mondo è fatto di borse e articoli fatti a mano, in vera pelle. Ho notato una stupenda borsetta gialla in vera pelle e ho stressato l’anima alla proprietaria perché mi dicesse tutto su quel prodotto.

La ragazza dietro al bancone ci ha accolto ed era li solo per noi, pronta a rispondere alle nostre domande e alla nostra curiosità e a mostrarci il laboratorio.

La “Bottega del sellaio” è un laboratorio di tradizione familiare che produce prodotti in vera pelle, dalle borse alle sedie e cinture.

La proprietaria ci ha raccontato di come suo nonno produceva borsette in velluto per le signore negli anni trenta a Roma e di come suo padre aveva ereditato il laboratorio, utilizzando il cuoio e la pelle. Ora oltre al papà ci sono anche le due figlie che portano avanti questa stupenda tradizione. Dentro il laboratorio si respira l’inconfondibile profumo di pelle, ma anche di tutta una tradizione che sta lottando contro la modernità assoluta, o il fast-product. Ogni prodotto è unico e originale, con una storia da raccontare.

Io ho acquistato una bellissima borsetta gialla, una copia perfetta della Birkin di Hermes, che vedete nella foto.

Ho quindi voluto dedicare il post di oggi a questo laboratorio familiare, dato che adoro i prodotti artigianali e vorrei pubblicizzare il fatto che credo sia fondamentale preservare e portare avanti i concetti anti-fordismo. Naturalmente è importante anche seguire la modernità, ma ritengo che dobbiamo rivalutare il ritorno alle tradizioni e all’abilità di apprezzare il valore del lavoro delle mani della gente che segue antiche tradizioni di alti standard qualitativi. In questo modo abbiamo la possibilità di vantarci della borsa meravigliosa (senza spendere migliaia di euro, ricordandoci così anche delle persone che non hanno nemmeno da mangiare), ed essere orgogliosi della nostra stessa eredità tradizionale.

Quindi se vi trovate a Roma, passate per via Banco di Santo Spirito, 22 ed entrate in questo mondo parallello senza età. Io sono ancora stupita!

ROME EXPERIENCE

Good afternoon readers!!!

How are you today?

Oh, well… finally here I am, telling you about my Roman experience!

On Sunday we took off from Venice and landed in Rome in the morning. It was a sunny and hot day and it was a special day, since there was the Rome Marathon. 

It was an extraordinary event: 5 km of running people, a lot of music and an incredible atmosphere in the air! I really enjoyed staying outside among all those people celebrating with each other, people coming from all around the world for one commune goal: running together in the stunning landscape of ancient Rome. Wonderful!

I really adore Rome and in this weekend I noticed the huge work of Romans in order to keep the city clean and efficient I front of the entire world.

As you know, I went to Rome because on Monday I had an interview with my Publisher Albatros Il Filo (www.gruppoalbatros.it) and the troupe of Caos Film.

 I met the speaker, Christian Floris (www.christianfloris.com) and I was really impressed by the professionalism of Christian, his incredible professionalism and strong attitude in transmitting emotions and knowledge, and also of the entire troupe and the Albatros representative, Giorgia. 

They were with us the whole morning and they led us through the whole interviewing process. I had the pleasure to meet the entire staff and also other writers like me and it was a great time to exchange points of view and emotions. 

The interviews experience were amazing. I had so much fun and I really cannot wait to see the videos on TV. Buongiorno a tutti!

Come state?

Finalmente eccomi qui a parlarvi della mia esperienza romana!

Domenica mattina siamo decollati direzione Roma. Era una giornata soleggiata e calda ed era davvero speciale: c’era la Maratona di Roma: 5 km di persone di corsa, musica ovunque e un’atmosfera unica nell’aria!!

 Mi è piaciuto davvero moltissimo mescolarmi alla folla festante, tra persone provenienti da tutti gli angoli del globo! Il tutto nel magnifico paesaggio dell’antica Roma! Una meraviglia!

Adoro Roma e questo weekend mi ha dato la possibilità di notare l’alacre volontà di curarla e farne una città internazionale pulita e in ordine davanti a tutto il mondo.

Come sapete, mi sono recata a Roma perché lunedì avevo un’intervista con il mio editore, Albatros il Filo (www.gruppoalbatros.it) e la troupe di Caos Film.

Ho anche avuto il piacere di conoscere Christian Floris (www.christianfloris.com) , il presentatore, un giovane grintoso e pieno di talento che mi ha stupita positivamente per la sua grande competenza e voglia di trasmettere emozioni e conoscenza. 

Ho apprezzato moltissimo la disponibilità e la professionale gentilezza di tutta la troupe e della rappresentante di Albatros il Filo, Giorgia. Sono rimasti con noi per tutta la mattinata, conducendoci con pazienza in questa esperienza unica. 

L’intervista è stata unica, incredibile! Mi sono divertita moltissimo e non vedo l’ora di vedere i video!!
