A SPECIAL ONE

Good evening readers!

What's up?

Tonight there will be no nook reviews.
Tonight I want to tell you about a special experience I could do thanks to a friend of mine.

He introduced me to a special woman.
She is amazing. As soon as I entered her place I was astonished by her apartment walls: full of books.
Others hosted wonderful and extravagant pictures of all sizes, of all colors.
Once you stepped into her second floor, you are welcomed by poems hand written on the walls, books again and colors everywhere. She is a colorful woman herself.

She prepared some cheese and we sipped a good Prosecco and tasted honey and mint sauce.
We talked about a handful of topics, and she told me about her amazing family and every single word was rich of meaning. We share one important aspect: we both love words. We both adore the strength words have and the beauty they can have if used in the correct way.

I wanted to share with you my joy and to tell you about this person, because she is the very first one I've ever met with such an intensive culture, such a natural charm. She is like a book to me, this is why I am writing about her.

Stasera non ci saranno recensioni di libri.
Vi voglio invece parlare del singolare incontro che ho fatto stasera, grazie ad un amico.

Mi ha infatti presentato una sua amica, una donna speciale.
Una volta nel suo appartamento, la prima cosa che ti colpiscono sono le pareti: libri ovunque, e dove non ci sono libri, trovi quadri di ogni dimensione ma di un certo carattere. Colore.
Al secondo piano i muri sono tappezzati di poesie che lei stessa ha scritto a mano. E colori ovunque. Lei stessa è colore.

Ha preparato del formaggio e abbiamo sorseggiato un Prosecco e assaporato miele e salsa di menta.
Abbiamo parlato molto, e mi ha raccontato una piccola parte della storia della sua famiglia. Ogni parola era ricca di significato. Condividiamo un aspetto importante: entrambe amiamo le parole. Entrambe adoriamo la forza che le parole hanno e il ruolo che rivestono se usate correttamente.

Volevo solo condividere con voi la gioia di tale incontro, perché lei è la prima persona con una cultura così incredibile, e con un charme così naturale. Vi ho parlato di lei perché per me è come un libro.

voglio aggiungere che LEI ha gli orecchini più belli che io abbia mai visto in vita mia!! E li disegna LEI!!!!

Hi everyone!

how are you doing?

I hope you are ok.

Today I want to write a post about the book I have started reading two days ago.

This is the book:

This is the latest book written by Stephen King. 

He is one of my favorite American writer. I have started reading it translated into Italian, but later I decided to see how it was in the original language. And I have never stopped. 

I have read 66 pages in a few hours. And I have to say that usually King creates his background and landscape in much more pages, but this time he managed to build the right environment in a few pages and the action is immediate. 

The story is about getting back in time and save JF Kennedy's life... interesting, uh?

Great author, 849 pages. Can't wait to have more time to go on reading!!! I will be able to tell you more about it.

Spero stiate tutti bene.

Oggi vi voglio parlare brevemente del libro che ho appena iniziato a leggere.
Eccolo qui:

Questo è l'ultimo libro di  Stephen King. 

King è uno degli autori statunitensi preferiti. I primi libri che ho letto erano in italiano, ma con il passare del tempo ho deciso di testarlo in inglese... e non ho più smesso.

Finora ho letto 66 pagine, in poche ore. E devo dire che stavolta King ha avuto un approccio diverso. 

Generalmente crea il contesto in molte più pagine, invece in questo libro l'azione inizia da subito, o quasi!

La storia ha come obiettivo quello di andare indietro nel tempo e salvare la vita di JF Kennedy... interessante, no?

Grandissimo autore, 849 pagine di emozioni. Non vedo l'ora di avere più tempo per continuare a leggere e farvi qualche commento in più :)

TRE CARATI

Good afternoon beloved readers. 

Yesterday I read a super smart book and I do want to talk to you about it. 

The book is written in Italian by an Italian journalist, Paola Jacobbi, who also works for Vanity Fair. 

Published in 2011 it is a small book, with a light blue (similar to Tiffany Blue) jacket. 

The publisher is Sperling&Kupfer. 

The author is this beautiful woman, (you can follow her blog on http://blog.vanityfair.it/author/paolajacobbi/) and a skilled journalist and writer. 

I decided to buy this book because I was caught by the jacket: light blue, an enormous ring on it, and inside the engagement, a woman. 

I thought it would be a light reading, relaxing and not really pretentious. 

Yesterday, after reading the last page of "El Narco. Inside Mexico's Criminal Insurgency" by Ioan Grillo, I went upstairs, and sat in front of my book shelves. I wondered the various books with the eyes and in the end I decided to pick up "Sotto i tre carati non è vero amore" (translated it would sound: Under three carats it is not real love). As I started reading the first pages, I found out what would be a great book. It is the story of the importance of jewels in society and, in general, in the personal life of everyone of us (men included!). It is smart, clean and incredibly funny. Paola has interviewed a lot of VIPs during her career, and she fills in the pages with cute examples and references to important people of all ages. She also underlines the different meanings of different jewels. Why we should choose a collier rather than a long necklace and so on. 

The book is simply intelligent, super funny and really worth-reading. Inside the book there are also many nice drawings. I read the book in a couple of hours. I laughed a lot and I am now reviewing it because I really loved it. 

I love jewels and I felt comfortable while reading her book, because I had the impression to be a part of the same world, that started ages and ages ago and still goes on unchanged: women (and men) adore jewels. 

People, "Sotto i tre carati non è vero amore" is a great book. Don't know actually if it was translated.

Ieri ho letto un libro super intelligente e ve ne voglio parlare. 

Il libro è scritto in italiano da una giornalista italiana, Paola Jacobbi, che lavora per Vanity Fair.

Pubblicato nel 2011, il libro è piccino e ha una copertina blu (molto simile al Tiffany Blue). 

La casa editrice è Sperling&Kupfer. 

L'autrice è una donna molto bella, (potete seguire il suo blog su: http://blog.vanityfair.it/author/paolajacobbi/) e una giornalista molto capace. 

Ho deciso di acquistare questo libro perché sono stata attirata dalla copertina appunto: questo blu chiaro, un enorme anello e dentro all'anello una donna. 

Ho pensato che sarebbe stata una lettura iper leggera, senza pretese.

Ieri, dopo aver letto l'ultima pagina di "El Narco. Inside Mexico's Criminal Insurgency" di Ioan Grillo, mi sono piazzata davanti alla mia libreria e con gli occhi mi sono messa a scorrere tutti i titoli non ancora letti e alla fine ho deciso di scegliere "Sotto i tre carati non è vero amore". 

Una volta lette le prime pagine ho scoperto che è un ottimo libro. E' la storia dell'importanza che i gioielli rivestono nella società e, in generale, nella vita personale di ognuno di noi (ometti inclusi!). 

E' una pubblicazione intelligente, pulita e incredibilmente divertente e acuta. Paola ha intervistato, nel corso della sua carriera, molti VIP e nelle pagine fa spesso riferimento a loro e al loro rapporto con i gioielli, ma non solo, parla anche degli uomini e donne dell'antichità. 

Sottolinea inoltre la differenza che c'è tra gioielli diversi, il perché dovremmo scegliere un collier invece che una collana lunga e così via. 

Il libro è veramente intelligente, super simpatico e vale la pena di essere letto. All'interno del libro troverete anche dei disegni molto carini. Io l'ho letto in un paio d'ore, ho riso tantissimo e ora sono qui a recensirlo a modo mio perché l'ho adorato. 

Mi piacciono molto i gioielli e mi son sentita bene durante la lettura, perché ho avuto l'impressione di essere una parte dello stesso mondo, che ebbe inizio secoli fa e che continua ancora oggi, invariato: donne ( e uomini) che adorano i gioielli (belli). 

Ragazzi, "Sotto i tre carati non è vero amore" è davvero un bel libro. Non ho idea se sia mai stato tradotto. Vi dirò.

RAIRISH

I feel gloomy, my mood perfectly matches the weather out of my room.

I have just finished a good book.
A couple of days ago I went for a walk with Laura. She was my high school English teacher, the one who gave me my first bad mark in my first English test, but she is the one who made me love English and that helped me pursuing my dreams. She is the one who has always told us to be adults, to think with our own brain and to express ourselves. She is Laura.
She thought me different aspects of cultures different than the one I was used to. She was the one.
We walked and chatted with Kobe, her dog. It was, as it always is, a pleasant walk, full of good and sincere talking. I always love it.
She also gave me her book. She moved to Ireland, after my high school degree.
During her stay she wrote a blog about her life there. Now, after 6 years and while reading it again, she decided to print it out using ilmiolibro.it. The money she rises from the sale of the book will be given to charity, an aspect that has always been pivotal to her.

The book is the following:

the title is RARISH.

This is a transcription from her blog, therefore the style is the one typical of the bloggers: small posts, with a date and a topic to talk about.
I know Laura, and reading her book is like reading the story of a part of life of a good friend.
The style is urban, fresh and smart. Laura talks about cultural, political (of that time!), educational, personal (and much more!!) topics. She tells what happens and what she feels living in a country that is not you homeland. She glimpse differences, good and bad aspects of the same society. Since she is Italian, she obviously compares the two Countries and offers her personal point of view on different aspects. She adores the Irish sea... it is her best friend there, she feels its mood and she gets addicted to it.
In the book there is real life, there is real humor, there is real sadness and real feelings.
It is an extremely personal publication and Laura decided to print it out on her own, the expenses are only hers and the money will go to India for Charity purposes.

Buon pomeriggio lettori, 

come va oggi?

io mi sento cupa e grigia, proprio come il tempo fuori dalla mia finestra. 

Un paio di giorni fa ho fatto due passi con Laura: la mia insegnante di inglese al liceo. Laura, colei che mi ha assegnato un brutto voto nel mio primo test di inglese, colei che mi ha fatto innamorare dell'inglese e che mi ha aiutato a seguire i miei sogni. 

Mi ha insegnato diversi aspetti di culture diverse da quella alla quale ero abituata (pur sempre amando quella statunitense, per esempio). Laura è colei che ci faceva fare compiti in classe "stile anglosassone", come lo chiamo io. Laura è colei che ci ha sempre insegnato a pensare con la nostra testa, e ad esprimere sempre i nostri punti di vista. Lei è Laura. E' stata, come sempre, una piacevolissima passeggiata con lei e Kobe, il suo cane. Una passeggiata serena con chiacchiere sincere. Come se ne trovano sempre meno. 

Mi ha anche dato il suo libro. L'anno successivo al mio diploma, Laura si è trasferita per un paio di anni in Irlanda, da dove ha scritto un blog. Ora, dopo 6 anni, rileggerlo le ha fatto venire la voglia di pubblicarlo tramite ilmiolibro.it. Il ricavato dalla vendita del libro andrà in beneficenza, un aspetto che le è sempre stato a cuore.

Il libro è il seguente:

il titolo è RAIRISH. 

E' una trascrizione di 107 pagine del suo blog, quindi lo stile è quello urbano, tipico dei blog: piccoli post, con data e argomento. 

Conosco Laura, e leggere il suo libro è stato come leggere la storia di una cara amica. 

Lo stile, come già detto, è veloce, fresco e acuto. Laura affronta temi di cultura, politica (del tempo), di istruzione e anche personali. Ci racconta cosa succedeva e cosa provava a vivere in un paese che non era la sua madrepatria. Fa il punto della situazione su differenze, pro e contro della stessa società. Dato che Laura è italiana, ovviamente fa una comparazione tra i due paesi e offre il suo spunto personale sui diversi aspetti. (il che è interessantissimo, molto curioso per coloro che vogliono saperne di più sull'Irlanda).

Laura adora il mare irlandese.. è il suo miglior amico, che impara a conoscere, ne percepisce l'umore.

Il libro trasuda di vita vera, di vero humor, di tristezza reale e di sentimenti veri.

E' una pubblicazione totalmente personale, e Laura ha deciso di pubblicarlo totalmente a sue spese. 

I proventi raccolti andranno in India per beneficenza.

THE END OF "EL NARCO"

One of the most interesting and touching books I have ever read.

I have just finished reading this book, as you know:

Oh well… it was a hard reading. I mean it was not easy to read some passages of this book, since I was not “prepared” of the entity and brutality present in its pages. 

I found myself silently crying on the pages, while reading of a kidnapped and tortured kid, of mothers who kiss their sons’ corpses.

There is no need to write a lot of words about this book. I just loved it in its totality.

I suggest you to read it, and if you do, write me what you think about it. Or if you have suggestions about other interesting books, just let me know.

I simply want to finish today’s posts with a quote from El Narco, words by Ioan Grillo.. a wish for everyone of us.

“This is a new son for the one that was lost. His mother has put hope in the fresh blood to grow up and make a better world than the one that killed his brother. We have to put our hope there too”.

Uno dei libri più interessanti e ben scritti che io abbia mai letto.

Ho appena finito di leggere questo libro, come ben sapete:

Non è stato facile… Voglio dire, non è semplie leggere alcuni passaggi di questo libro… Non sempre ero preparata alle barbarie presenti nelle sue pagine.

Mi sono ritrovata, spesso, in lacrime mentre leggevo di ragazzi rapiti e torturati, di madri che baciano i cadaveri dei propri figli.

Non serve scrivere molte parole su questo libro. L’ho adorato nella sua totalità.

Vi suggerisco davvero di leggerlo e se lo farete, ditemi cosa ne pensate. O se volete suggerirmi altri titoli interessanti quanto questo, non temete!

Voglio infine citare le parole conclusive di Ioan Grillo, un augurio per tutti noi:

“This is a new son for the one that was lost. His mother has put hope in the fresh blood to grow up and make a better world than the one that killed his brother. We have to put our hope there too”.
